ARC Welder SMAW, CTS (Natchitoches and Sabine Valley Campuses)

The Certificate of Technical Studies in Arc Welder SMAW credential builds upon the foundational welding skills.  Students will learn shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) welding which is used in a variety of applications, including maintenance and repair, construction, and industrial fabrication.

Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of a Certificate of Technical Studies in ARC Welder, SMAW will be able to demonstrate:

  1. technical skills in processes and techniques of welding, including oxyfuel cutting, the safe setup of equipment and principles of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for V-Groove welds with a backing or back gouging in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using various electrodes
  2. knowledge of the codes, standards, and agencies regulating the welding industry.
  3. ability to read blueprints as related to an industrial setting, symbolism, terminology, notes, material specifications and requirements, and sketching.
  4. safe and efficient work practices with basic occupational and employability skills.
