Diagnostic Medical Sonography, AAS


The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate of Applied Science (AAS) is a 61 credit-hour program designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, values, and competencies for a career in diagnostic ultrasound. The curriculum is based on requirements of the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and will be eligible to take the Sonographics Physics and Instrumentation (SPI) exam upon graduation. Graduates will need an additional one year work experience to qualify for the ARDMS specialty exam. 

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:

  • Complete chart review using data collecting skill to analyze and integrate pertinent patient information to facilitate optimum diagnostic.
  • Demonstrate sound independent judgment in the performance of sonogram by recording, analyzing and process diagnostic data and other pertinent information during procedure.
  • Exercise discretion and sound judgment in the performance of sonographic procedure with optimal imaging and accurate documentation to present to interpreting physician.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, legal and ethical behavior in adhering to HIPAA guidelines and ensure optimal patient care, patient education and patient comfort before, during and after diagnostic procedure.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills with patient, family, and colleagues to promote high quality care.
  • Apply skills necessary to fulfill to responsibilities of an entry-level sonographer.

Qualification Courses: 25 Hours

Qualification courses must be completed by May of the application year. Application deadline is April 15.
