Performing Arts, Musical Theatre Concentration, AA

The Associate of Applied Arts in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) is designed for students seeking practical experience and course work in musical theatre. The degree program provides a comprehensive two-year associate degree which students can transfer to a four-year theatre program, or students can seek continued employment in the entertainment industry using the enhanced professional performance (singing, dancing, and acting) and technical skills they have acquired.

Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of the Associate of Arts in Performing Arts with a concentration in Theatre or Musical Theatre will have demonstrated:

  1. comprehension of basic theories, practices, and techniques used in theatre;
  2. proficiency in performance abilities or technical skills, and management situations;
  3. comprehension of audition and job interview skills;
  4. competency in analysis and research skills; and
  5. successful communication within the theatre environment using verbal, written, and basic computer literacy skills.

Required Courses for Associate of Arts in Performing Arts with a Concentration in Musical Theatre:

Freshman Year


First Semester: 15 Credit hours


Second Semester: 14 Credit Hours


Sophomore Year


Third Semester: 14 Credit Hours


Fourth Semester: 17 Credit Hours


Total Credit Hours required for the Associate of Applied Arts in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre concentration): 61


SPCH 110  or SPCH 115   (grade of “C” or higher)

Students must meet prerequisites before taking any given course.

Students must make a “C” or higher in all courses which satisfy graduation requirements in order to receive the Associate of Arts in Performing Arts from BPCC.

1For transfer to a four-year institution, students are strongly advised to take MATH 102  instead of MATH 124  or MATH 101 . Students must seek the assistance of their advisor to determine the appropriate mathematics course.

**The student must take a minimum of 9 hours from the following courses for the Musical Theatre concentration: THTR 101, 112, 113, 114, 116, 120, 158, 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 220, 221, 232, 255, 256, 260
