YPRO 193 - BASIC AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL)


Learn basic ASL to communicate with deaf or hard of hearing individuals.

This is an elementary course in American Sign Language to introduce culturally appropriate signed concepts related to the deaf community. Common signs will be taught to acquire a basic working vocabulary and grammar, including development of appropriate linguistic/ cultural behaviors and awareness of respect for deaf culture. Receptive and expressive skills are promoted to strengthen communication skills when engaging with deaf or hoh individuals. This is a credit course open to non-credit students. Students registering through continuing education will not receive academic credit hours. Price includes fees associated with the course. Program used in association with this course will help accessible in class online. A computer of any kind is needed for this course for videos and assignments used in class.
