Medical Office Specialist, CTS


The Certificate of Technical Studies in Medical Office Specialist program prepares students for entry level positions with administrative functions in medical coding or medical billing. 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Distinguish among Medicare Parts A, B, C, D
  2. Interpret rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
  3. Summarize basic health insurance and managed care concepts
  4. Understand conventions and other official instructional notations
  5. Identify the characteristics of the Alphabetic Index
  6. Identify the characteristics of the Tabular List
  7. Apply the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
  8. Demonstrate ability to utilize the Alphabetic Index and Tabular List
  9. Understand the steps to accurate coding
  10. Demonstrate the ability to report diagnoses with I-10
  11. Demonstrate the ability to assign HCPCS codes
  12. Append modifiers
  13. Describe the job responsibilities of a health insurance.
  14. Identify coding and reimbursement professional associations and credentials offered
  15. Describe the processing of an insurance claim from patient appointment through claims submission.
