Residential Electrician, CTS (Sabine Valley Campus)

The Certificate of Technical Studies in Residential Electrician credential prepares the student to work alongside a certified electrician.  Electrical safety and theory, wiring and installation, National Electric Code, and the reading and interpretation of blueprints are skills learned in this program.

Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of a Certificate of Technical Studies in Residential Electrician will be able to demonstrate:

  1. Knowledge of electron theory, basic circuits, cells and batteries, resistance networks, Ohm’s law, Kirchoff’s law, electromagnetism, alternating current, impedance, phase relationships, resonance, transformer, time constant principles and use of measuring instruments.
  2. fundamental knowledge of electrical wiring types and the components used in the residential industry.
  3. the application of basic components such as switches, outlets, and lighting, and connecting electrical services.
  4. National Electrical Code (NEC) calculations including voltage/drops, fill capacities for boxes and conduits, branch circuit calculations, service sizing, box sizing, grounding, and bonding.
