Welding I, CTS (Natchitoches and Sabine Valley Campuses)

A Certificate of Technical in Welding I credential prepares students with the minimum welding skills needed to be employable.  Students will demonstrate the safe use of welding equipment; demonstrate various joining processes and the proper setup, adjusting and use of typical cutting and welding equipment.

Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of a Certificate of Technical Studies in Welding I will be able to demonstrate:

  1. technical skills in processes and techniques of welding, including oxyfuel cutting, carbon arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, pipe-welding, plasma arc cutting, and joints.
  2. knowledge of the codes, standards, and agencies regulating the welding industry.
  3. ability to read blueprints as related to an industrial setting, symbolism, terminology, notes, material specifications and requirements, and sketching.
  4. the safe setup of equipment and principals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
