Electrician Technology, TD (Sabine Valley Campus)

The Electrician Technology program provides instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in electrical trades. Areas of instruction include electrical theory, circuit design and operation, the national electrical code (NEC), blueprint reading, construction blueprint interpretation, and test equipment usage. Students plan wiring tasks and gain practical experience by wiring mock-ups and trainers. Students become familiar with tools, materials, and methods used in residential wiring. Students troubleshoot circuits for faulty operation and make repairs. Students learn AC and DC theory, series and parallel circuits, motor and generator theory, motor controls, lighting and appliance wiring, and testing and repair. Students who complete the program earn a Technical Diploma (TD).

Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of a Technical Diploma in Electrician Technology will be able to:

  1. to provide instruction that will allow a student to be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair wiring, electrical equipment and other electrical devices used in the industrial environment.  Communicate technical design information using techniques common in industry;
  2. to provide instruction that will allow a student to gain a general knowledge of all areas of the Electrician program; and
  3. to meet the requirements/needs of the Electrical industry in the service area by preparing students for entry level jobs. 

Specific Degree Information:

Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor concerning required courses and sequencing for this certificate.

Required Courses for the Technical Diploma in Electrician Technology:

Freshman Year


First Semester: 13 Hours


Sophomore Year


Fourth Semester: 6 Hours


Total Credit Hours: 46 Hours
