Communication Media, Sound and Music Recording Concentration, AAS

The Associate of Applied Science in Communication Media with a concentration in Sound and Music Recording is designed to train students in sound reinforcement and studio recording.  Students develop proficiencies that can be applied to professional career development or entrepreneurial goals.

Learning Outcomes:

There are five concentrations in the Associate of Applied Science in Communication Media: Mass Communication, Sound and Music Recording, Graphic Design/Computer Animation, Photography, and Multimedia. Recipients of the degree in the Associate of Applied Science in Communication Media will have demonstrated:

     A. Recognize and employ the dynamics of collaboration to produce communication media projects.
     B. Apply principles of communication media to create effective and engaging content, including the importance of storytelling, audience analysis, and production values.
     C. Demonstrate proficiency in oral, written, and mediated communication.
     D. Apply communication principles and theories to address complex real-world problems impacting diverse communities.

This program articulates with one or more institutions or agencies. Refer to the Transfer Agreements  section of the catalog for further detail.

Required Courses for the Associate of Applied Science in Communication Media with a concentration in Sound and Music Recording:

Freshman Year


First Semester: 15 Hours


Second Semester: 15 Hours


Sophomore Year


Third Semester: 15 Hours


Fourth Semester: 15 Hours


Total Credit Hours: 60


Students must meet prerequisites before taking any given course.

Students must make a ” C ” or higher in all courses which satisfy graduation requirements in order to receive the Associate of Applied Science in Communication Media from BPCC.

1For transfer to a four-year institution, students are strongly advised to take MATH 102  instead of  MATH 124  or MATH 101 . Students must seek the assistance of their advisor to determine the appropriate mathematics course.

*The student must take a minimum of 12 hours from the following elective courses for the Sound and Music Recording concentration MUSC 100 COMM 105 , COMM 108 , COMM 201 , COMM 202 , COMM 209 , COMM 210 ,COMM 216 , COMM 218 , COMM 219 , COMM 236 , COMM 239 , COMM 251 , COMM 259 , COMM 281 COMM 299 , or any other Communication course.
