Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, CTC (Bossier, Natchitoches, and Sabine Valley Campuses)


The primary responsibility of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is to offer basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation to critical and emergent patients. They work as part of a comprehensive EMS response team under medical oversight and are proficient in using the basic and advanced equipment typically found in an ambulance.

Goal:

To prepare competent Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains required to enter the profession.

Learning Outcomes:

The recipients of the CTC in Advance Emergency Medical Technician will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and ability to assess and manage a patient in the out-of-hospital environment at the level of an Advanced EMT.
  2. Behave in a manner consistent with the expectations of the Emergency Medical Services profession.

Specific Requirements:

Students pursuing a technical competency certification as Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) must first meet College admission requirements.

To participate in the clinical portion of the program, students must have a valid EMT license in the state of Louisiana. Students without a valid license must complete EMTP 100 and EMTP 100L with a minimum grade of C and pass the National Registry of EMTs licensure exam for Louisiana before participating in the clinical portion of the program. 

 

The AEMT Program includes didactic, laboratory, and field instructions. Upon successful completion of the program courses, a student is eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians- AEMT exam and apply for state licensure.
