Learning Outcomes:

Recipients of the Certificate of Technical Studies in Health Information Security will be able to:

  1. effectively safeguard protected medical information;
  2. utilize innovative technologies in the management of healthcare-related infromation;;
  3. investigate, critically analyze, and solve issues relating to the legal and ethical principles of basic healthcare and information technology; and
  4. interpret and convey technical and medical information using written, digital, and oral forms of communication.

Specific Degree Information:

The Certificate of Technical Studies in Health Information Security provides students with the skills and qualities needed to fulfill the multifaceted role of an information technology specialist in the healthcare industry. The program includes instruction on technologies to keep network assets, secure, conducting forensic analysis, cloud computing, electronic health records, interoperability of systems, and safely handling healthcare information.   Students will develop the attitudes and principles which will encourage continued growth in a profession that is rapidly expanding in scope.

Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor concerning required courses and sequencing for this degree.

First Semester: 12 Hours


Second Semester: 12 Hours


Third Semester: 8 Hours


Total Credit Hours: 32


Students must meet prerequisites before taking any given course.
